East meets West no longer receives funding from the Government
as at April 2008 to cover our program costs.
The East meets West Board is
currently actively looking at other avenues to continue our program and
generate funds. Funding for East Meets West will be the future of
our organisation, if we have no funding, then we cannot afford salaries
of the paid workers to organise and attend activities. We are
looking for any parents interested in joining the board or who have
suggestions for funding opportunities.

AFAAD (Adopted and Fostered Adults of the African Diaspora) was formed
specifically to support adopted and fostered people, to share our
common and divergent experiences around race, adoption, joy, loss,
family, search and reunion, and self identity and to celebrate our
unique creativity, stories and community.
The purpose of our Annual Gathering is to make connections, network,
provide healing space, and to celebrate the diversity of our amazing
diaspora of transracial, international, domestic adoptees and foster
care alums. AFAAD uses “Black” in the widest diasporic sense, which
includes African, African American, bi-racial and multi heritage,
Afroasian and Afrolatino peoples.
AFAAD believes that providing connections for and creating space to
make visible the adoption and foster community in Black/ African
diasporic cultures worldwide will give support to those who otherwise
remain isolated in their experiences. As adoptees and fosters
ourselves, we believe that coming together, even simply to hear one
another’s stories and experiences, is a powerful tool for those of us
who have for so long felt we are alone.
