HOW TO ACCESS AVI SEARCHING REGISTER

1. Due to limited resources (AVI is not funded and relies on volunteer efforts), time restraints etc. most search posts sent in to AVI are now listed on an Excel Document that can be sent to you.  This list is then made available, when opportunities become available, to relevant organisations and networks.

2. If you think you can help Vietnamese adoptees and lost relatives with their search please feel free to ask for a copy of the register and to circulate it appropriately.

3. Some emails on the register need updating so remember to notify AVI if you change addresses.  Also, if you have sent a photo and wish to have it featured below please send a reminder to the searching team.

4. AVI is unable to verify/facilitate searches for you - we can only record them.  Remember to include the email you wish to be contacted by, so that people who read your search can contact you directly.  Your search will be made public to anyone who asks for the register so please consider ways that you can ensure an important level of privacy and protection for yourself.

5. Re-uniting Vietnamese families is no small task and every helpful act counts.  We also encourage you to send any news about reconnected families.  We are always happy to post your successful searching story and let others learn and be inspired from it in the spirit of community support - see the link at the top of this page.

See more Australian contacts on the AVA pages, or international pages below.  Extra advice on searching has kindly been shared and provided by members of groups such as Operation Reunite, Amerasian Family Finder,  Origines Vietnam, VAN and ICASN.  Thank you to the Operation Babylift volunteers as well such as Sr Susan McDonald, John Douglas and Ian Frame.

Baby boy, Dalat Hospital, June or July 1962, searching for birth mother.

I was born in Dalat Hospital in June or July 1962.  I was adopted right 3,4
days after that. A Catholic Nun who worked at the hospital helped to process
adoption paper. The Nun and my mother were present in the room when a
relative of the adoptee family
picked me up from her bed. I was told my mother was between 20-30 years old
at that time, long hair, speaking with accent from Da-nang or other city in
the middle of Vietnam.

During last several years, I have been actively searching for my mother. If
she is still alive somewhere, or anyone knows information
about this matter, please help me to find her.

Replies:

I would be a bit careful with distributing flyers in Danang. . . On your flyers there are two addresses of Orphanages in Danang.
Try to find them and speak with them. Maybe they find you in their records and know from which church you were brought from.  Also, there might be a Red Cross in Danang, where you might want to ask whether they can help. Finally, you could try to get to the local newspaper and tell your story. Maybe they are willing to publish an article - or at least post kind of an ad (maybe for a bit of money) - SP, Hanoi
