Nguyen Thi Bong found - thanks for everyone's help.

May 05: Host family looking for Vietnamese 1968 girl.
In about 1971, our family hosted a girl named Nguyen T. Bong. She was  from Vietnam and had serious facial injuries as a result of an  explosion. She was 5 or 6 years old at the time, so now (2005) she  would be about 40. I was a child in the host family, same age as Bong.  We lived in Los Angeles at the time (Sherman Oaks, to be exact). She  had reconstructive surgery while staying with us. My parents divorced  and the placement agency did not feel that my mom could take care of  her three children plus Bong, so she was taken away from us. My mom  really loved Bong and this was heartbreaking for her. I think she  would love to hear from Bong if anyone knows where she might be. Thank  you. Geoff Bernhardt Update May 05: Found. Nguyen Thi Bong was featured in the PBS video. Geoff contacted the  makers and the director has forwarded Geoff’s email to her. She became  a successful banker, now working independently leasing large  equipment. Last fall, she got married. Found - Mother has been reunited with her two sons in October 2003

FWD: Found - Mother has been reunited with her two sons in October.   Mrs. Vai has located and been re-united with her two sons, Anh Quoc Nguyen (DOB 08/18/1966) and Dong Quoc Nguyen (1970).

She originally wrote:

"These two children were adopted by one American family and left Viet Nam before

Christmas of 1974. While I was in Vietnam their adopted parents had been sending me some
financial support for a while. I had kept their address tightly only
to loose it some time in the late 1980's. As a matter of fact, in 1983
I gave a copy of the document showing the name and address of the
adopted parents to the US immigration official who reviewed my
immigration application in Saigon. At that time, the officer told me to
leave the children undisturbed for completing their education. He
promised to keep the information in my file. Immediately upon my entry
to the US port, I showed the same document to an immigrant officer who
also made a copy of it to place in my file. We had been separated for almost 30 years. As mother I had been praying day and night to one day  seeing my children again, to meeting their adopted parents once more. "

On October 20 we received the news...

"Just wanted to let you know Mrs. Vai has located and been re-united with her two sons recently.  I want to express my personal thanks to all of you for your part in helping to make this search successful". - (a family friend).

Found - Birth Mother March 2003
Australian adopted Vietnamese Catherine Turner found her biological mother through using her birth certificates records of her own
birth date and that of her mothers. A former World Vision child, she happily reunited with her biological mother in March 2003, accompanied
by her adoptive parents. Catherine is currently working on documenting this project and editing video footage she took
of this amazing and inspiring event. Photo below: Reunited - Catherine with her Vietnamese grandmother, mother and step father
Excerpts from Catherine: I grew up in a small country town where I
was one of about 3 Asians. While I felt isolated and frustrated at my
differences many times, I always had the immense support of my adoptive
family, which constantly told me I was special, I was unique and I
should be proud to be Vietnamese and proud of my ancestors. As a young
girl and teenager it is not always what you want to hear, but hear it
often enough and I started to believe it - though not till my early 20s.
I have been to Vietnam once before to meet someone who we thought was my mother but wasn't.
Then I returned in March 2003 after the happiest time in my life!
I managed to track my real Vietnamese mother down...
My mother is gorgeous, kind, gentle, beautiful and best of all she
loves me and has thought about me for 28 years! It truly is destiny
that we discovered one another. We are now both at the beginning of a
very exciting time of our lives: getting to know one another.

Found - Biological Family: April 2001

Message from Nguyen Thi Thu dated 14th April 2001

I just wanted to let everyone know that I found my family. They moved to Honolulu in1991 after resettling in Lansing MI. We are planning to meet in LA next week. In addition to my mother, I have two older brothers, two older sisters and three nieces and nephews My older sister is going to take me back to Vietnam to meet the rest of the family (aunts, uncles, cousins, great grandmother, etc.). I'm so happy to know that they are alive and well.

The help I've received from complete strangers has given me a new found trust and love of mankind. The support I've received from friends and family has made this moment even more special.

Thanks again for being there for me.

Sincerely, Trista (Nguyen Thi Thu)
